Until April 15, 2012 - Siviero, collector of liturgical objects
Following the 2011 exhibit of chalices, ciboriums and monstrances, other liturgical objects collected by Siviero are now on display - thuribles, crosses, bells - all previously unseen by the public, as they have been stored on the closed upper floor of the house museum. As in the previous exhibit, the show of the liturgical objects from the collection of Siviero is enriched by the inclusion of similar pieces found in a church in Florence's surrounding countryside, the church of San Giovanni Battista a Remole in the town of Pontassieve. The exhibit is also intended to highlight the work carried out by Siviero for the recovery of those liturgical objects stolen and taken from Italy, a problem with which Siviero was preoccupied until 1947, when he retrieved several bells from Germany that were taken by Nazi soldiers. In the catalogue compiled by Siviero, other diverse objects are registered, such as chalices, crosses, and other liturgical furnishings, which were taken during the Second World War and which have still not been found. There are also other works that were missing for causes unrelated to the war but that were also retrieved by Siviero, among which are such notable objects as the fifteenth-century cross of San Marco, a work by a goldsmith from Abruzzo: stolen in 1972 and recovered in 1974, it is today housed in the Civic and Diocesan Museum of Visso (Macerata). Other works on display illustrate Siviero's passion for collecting, which was strongly in relation to the aesthetic-cultural stimuli that originated in his efforts towards recovering works of art: there, in fact, exist notable similarities between the recuperated objects and those that he purchased from the antique market for the furnishing of his own home.
Exhibit hours: Saturday, 10 am-6 pm and Monday, 10 am-1 pm. From Tuesday to Friday: reservation required, email to
